As his teakettle was skimming James rubbed his face as he looked down at Pebbles. “What do you want?,” he asked raising his left eyebrow. He walked over to his drawer and pulled out a white hoodie to put over his maroon shirt. James always wore two shirts at all times when he had clothes on. It was odd, but it made him feel more dressed somehow. Bam-Bam jumped on the young Black trying to get his attention. “Do you boys want out or something? I mean honestly now you three are the most needy animals I have ever had. No reason Mum made me take all three of you with me.” James rubbed his arms and looked at his kettle before he started looking over at Scooter who was playing with a dog toy. That dog was such a puppy, but how couldn’t you just adore him? The young Black began looking for his belt so that he could leave his office and room. Tonight he had plans to go to Andromeda’s Observatory and hang out there for a while. It would get him away from all the work he had been doing lately. Right now all he wanted was some well-needed rest and a cup of caramel toffee tea.
His teakettle began to boil and whistle which made Bam-Bam bark loudly. James Black took the kettle off his stove and poured the hot water into his infamous mug. A yawn came from his mouth as he could feel himself becoming drowsy. Since early this morning he had been awake working on paper work and making sure everything ran smoothly. He began pouring a cup and a half of sugar into his mug. With his left hand he ruffled his dark brown hair and sighed. Maybe he would have another quiet night tonight so that he could sort out his thoughts that were jumbled all in his brain. Sometimes he thought his brain would explode from the amount of over-thinking that he often did. “I’m coming, boys. Just calm down so I can make sure I’m ready to go.” Picking up his mug he began blowing into it so that his tea would cool down. He hated taking that first sip of a hot drink ‘cause you never knew if you were going to burn your tongue right off or burn your lip into a blister. James whistled calling his pets to order. “We can go now,” he said to them and walked toward his door. His wand was already in his hoodie pocket and he double-checked with his right hand.
Opening his door Scooter, Pebbles, and Bam-Bam ran out of the door. The door closed behind him and he began walking casually toward the staircase. I hope they don’t wake anyone up with their walking around. Should find a spell to make their noises silent. Probably would do me a load of good too. James pulled the hood to his hoodie up as he began walking up the stairs toward the tallest tower. At the moment the school seemed dead quiet and it was very nerve racking since it was in the dead of the night. He wished he had something listen to other than his pets walk beside him and his own breathing. The Black took a sip of his drink as he walked up the stairs carefully. “Pebbles, move. I’m about to trip,” he said using his foot to move Pebbles over a little. “You make breaking hearts look so easy. Seems like you’ve done this before,” he sang to himself a little as he strolled by himself. “You’ve got breaking hearts all put down and you’ve done this, you’ve done this before. You make stealing hearts look so easy. Where is the girl I adore? You’ve got breaking up all but down, and I can’t love a thief anymore.”
James had never been a great singer, but he had a singing voice that he could deal with. He didn’t mind singing to himself or to a group of friends when they were all bored. With a deep breathe the thought about the girl he had… liked a very long time ago. Well not a very long time ago considering it was about three years ago. It was something he had never told anyone, not even his own sisters. There was too much embarrassment in it and he had learned a lesson from it, so he guessed that’s what accounted for the whole thing. Going quiet he sipped on his drink and put his right hand on the stair railing to give himself some balance. With three dogs trying to go in between his legs and around his ankles it was hard to walk. “Do you collect the souls you’ve lost in the top of your dresser drawer? Count the number of tears displaced on the lonely bedroom floors.” “Scooter,” he said as he about tripped over the dog and spilt his tea on the stairs. “Now we’ve got a mess.” James pulled his wand out of his pocket and muttered a spell that made the mess disappear into thin air. Scooter received a look from James that meant he was in trouble. Once his wand was away he picked up the small dog with his right hand and kept the dog close to him. “Oh, you know you’re in trouble, mutt,” he jokingly stated.
In the tallest tower he walked into Andromeda’s Observatory and sat down on a bench. He turned his back to the arm of the bench and scooted down so that his head now rested on the arm. The young headmaster placed his tea on the ground and let Bam-Bam and Pebbles have a sip of the drink. “Thanks you, two. Now I can’t have any.” Chuckling a bit he let Scooter lay on top of his chest as James closed his eyes. His legs crossed at his ankles and he put one arm behind his head feeling relaxed. Pebbles and Bam-Bam ran around in the observatory trying to catch fireflies in their mouth. James could say that whenever he was in his animagus form that he never had that feeling to catch bugs in his mouth or catch bubbles. Deep breaths began to fill his lungs more and he felt as though he was drifting to sleep in the chilly air. At least it was chilly to him, but he was cold natured and always cold. Scooter wagged his tail happily against James’ arm. “Scoot, either scoot to the floor or control yourself,” he laughed opening his eyes and petting his dog. Brown eyes looked up toward the sky and he began matching the stars together to form a constellation. Astronomy had never been one of his favorite classes, but he had done well in it. Well enough to remember the constellations and find them in the night sky.

CAN WE PRETEND THAT AIRPLANES IN THE NIGHT SKY ARE LIKE SHOOTING STARS? I COULD REALLY USE A WISH RIGHT NOW. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- On her return to her room, Amanda tossed aside her shoes and fell on top of her bed. Sinking into her cool comforter, she sighed loudly, her hands stretching forth before she rolled over on her back. It was a long day full of paper work and dealing with James Black. So much had to be done when the school reopened, but she didn't imagine it to be this difficult. Students needed to be sorted, they had to file their transcripts, and then interview people for positions on staff. Her head hurt just thinking of all the names of those possible professors and their qualities as well as references. Hearing them all out didn't tire her, it was the repetitive stories and the lack of interest. Amanda felt that it wasn't a part of her job to sit in and look over their applications. This should all be left for James to handle and she complained. Eventually she was left to do side work, mainly maintenance on the school and meeting with some of the house elves. Nevertheless she made sure to appear energized and interested to everyone, keeping up that appearance until she entered her room. It was nice and quiet, cool and relaxing as she laid there on her back. Her hazel green eyes staring at the ceiling and trying to find some comfort in the dark. Her muscles ached from sitting all day, also tension from the constant nagging of James Black. He was obsessed with sandwiches and she still refused to play maid and serve him. "Sandwiches. Pitiful," she smirked, tossing over on her stomach and letting out another loud sigh. Her eyes were heavy and her body needed rest, but a hot shower sounded good about now.
Amanda first picked out what she would wear to bed tonight. Next she grabbed for a towel and went in to the bathroom, turning the shower on hot water. She tested the water and shifted the knob until it was the perfect temperature. Undressing to bare skin, she entered the large tub and the water from the shower head trickled down her body. She lathered, scrubbed, and wash. Then letting the water beat on her shoulders and back, Amanda just stood there for five minutes, allowing the heat of the water undo the knots on her shoulders and back. The tension loosened and she felt better. Turning the water off, she grabbed for her towel, drying and then wrapping it around her body. Amanda felt as if the weight of her work had been lifted off her back. Her hand wiped the mirror of fog and she glanced at her reflection. Obviously she was tired since it was apparent in her gaze. A yawn slipped past her lips and she glanced away, taking her tooth brush and adding toothpaste. Duke had entered the bathroom, glancing up at her as she began brushing her teeth. Amanda looked down at him and extended her hand, scratching behind his ear as she attempted to smile. Once she rinsed and gargled, Amanda flossed and then proceeded to brush and dry her hair. It was like her nightly ritual to go through this, just so that she could feel clean and refreshed before she went to bed. When her hair was dried with a quick flick of her wand, she left the bathroom with Duke by her side and back into her room. She pulled on her undergarments first and then a pair of dark beige sweat capris and a purple tank top.
She hopped on her bed, sprawled out on her down comforter. Sleep was a good idea, but as she laid there, wrapped insider her blanket, her stomach began to growl. "I skipped dinner..." Amanda completely forgot since she had a snack instead. Amanda sat up, looking over at Duke who passed out already. He really did amaze her sometimes, but Duke is a good dog. Amanda yawned, arms stretched above her as she wiggled her feet in a pair of black slippers. She moved to the closet and took out a thin white jacket, slipping her arms in each sleeve. Quietly she snuck out of her room without waking up her dog, climbing up a flight of stairs and coming to the portrait of a garden. Of course the school changed the portrait since her arrival and long ago it was different entering the kitchen. But luckily she remembered to tickle the strawberries. So she stretched her hand and her fingers tickled the strawberries. It was funny and she giggled to herself as the door opened. Upon entering she was greeted by one of the house elves. His large blue eyes stared at her and asked what if there was anything he could get for her. "I think you've done enough today," she smiled warmly. "I'll just make myself a sandwich, but thank you for the offer." Amanda went to retrieve two slices of wheat bread on a plate. Then she added dry genoa salami, mortadella, thin sliced pepperoni, capocolla and provolone cheese. Lastly she decorated her sandwich with lettuce, tomato, black olives, and seasoned it with salt, pepper, oregano and olive oil. It was the perfect sandwich and her favorite, the italian sub. She cut the sandwich in half and took a bite, chewing and savoring the multiple flavors that were scrumptious!
Leaving the kitchen with her plate that included a sandwich and a soda, Amanda glanced around wondering where she should eat this. It wasn't all that late at night, but the dining hall was dark and alone. She didn't like eating in her room and leaving crumbs anyway. Also the smell of her italian sub would linger in her room when she slept, and she hates when food smells linger on her clothes. Her eyes scanned the hall and out the window to her right. The night dawned and stars dotted the sky and the moon was growing ever brighter. Perhaps moonlighting in the observatory with her sandwich would be a nice and peaceful. So she climbed up to the observatory, of course tempting to stop because the smell of her sandwich made her stomach growl. But as she entered Andromeda's Observatory, she never expected to end up in the same place as James Black. The side of her lips fell into a frown. There was only one thing positive about the scene besides his back toward her and that was his three dogs. They were cute and cuddly. Of course Amanda is a dog person rather than a cat and it must run in the blood. "Of all places I choose this evening to relax with a snack, I pick the same as you," she finally spoke in a disappointed tone. "Don't mind me because I probably won't stay long." Amanda glanced around and luckily there was another bench she could sit on by herself. No way would she share the same sitting space with James if she had to share the same room. Once on her own bench, her back facing him, Amanda helped herself to the sandwich half that she took a bite out of. Her head craned back to look up at the sky. It was very beautiful and she remembered how she spent nights here for Astronomy. The class was one of her strongest courses, but of course all of them were since she worked hard for her grades and to get to the place in her life now.

Hearing footsteps he sat up a bit to see who it was. Pebbles, Bam-Bam, and Scooter perked up their ears hearing the same sound and began getting defensive of James. Pebbles began growling until he saw Miss Lupin walk into the observatory. “It’s you,” said James more to himself than to her. Whistling he called Pebbles and Bam-Bam over to him. “Thanks for that, Miss Lupin,” he said as she stated that she unfortunately was in the same area as him. James nonchalantly stated, “I’m disappointed too so don’t be so down. If I had known you were coming I would have locked the door.” Amanda Delphine Lupin was the last person he wanted to see on the planet and yet she ended up in the same area. Out of all the places in this building she had made her way to it had to be this place. He let out a sigh and he laid back down onto the arm of the bench as Scooter jumped off his chest and onto the stone floor. The young Black didn’t want to fight right now. All schoolwork was in the offices and that’s where it would stay. Outside of those two offices James didn’t want to argue about anything if he could help it. But somehow he figured Amanda would start crap just to have a go at him.
“Bam-Bam, get back here. She does not want to give you her sandwich,” he said trying to call his yellow dog over. “Bam, now. Let her rest and eat in peace. Doesn’t want you over there drooling all over her.” James looked away from Bam-Bam and Amanda, and looked up to the night sky. Feeling a bit hot he took off his shirt to reveal a maroon shirt. He folded up the hoodie and put it behind his head so it would serve as a pillow. “Bam-Bam,” he said a very stern tone, “get over here right this instant before I drag you back here. You’ve had plenty to eat. You’ll get fat.” The headmaster took very good care of his pets because they were like his children. He treated them as his children and if anything were to ever to happen to them he did not know what he would do. Brown eyes looked from his pet again to Pebbles who was jumping on the ledge. “Pebbles!,” he said jumping up from the bench and rushing over to his dog. His arms wrapped around his dog and he picked Peebles up from the ledge. “What in the hell are you thinking? You could have fell!” Peebles and James looked over the edge together and James looked to his black dog. “See, you can’t even see all the way down can you? What would have happened if you would have fell? Became a flat pancake of fur.”
Holding Peebles in his arms James looked over to Bam-Bam who was still eying Amanda’s sandwich like it was possibly the last meal he could have. “Bam-Bam Black,” he said walking over to Bam-Bam and letting go of Pebbles who landed on his paws. “Scooter seems to be my only good pet. Why can’t you two act more like him?” If he had three Scooters he would never be able to handle it. Scooter liked to be petted constantly and babied. With his left hand he pulled his yellow dog by his collar toward the other bench. “Come on, Bam-Bam.” No matter how much James pulled on the collar Bam-Bam barely budged. “She won’t give you any scraps either. You’ve had mine and my tea for the Queen’s sake.” Giving up he picked up his dog in his arms and began walking over toward the other bench. Before he knew it he felt something against his leg and heard a help that sounded like Scooter. As he fell over his own dog James turned to land on his back so he wouldn’t fall on his other pet, Bam-Bam. When he landed he hit his head on the ground and his leg propped up on Scooter who was hiding a little bit. Bam-Bam walked off James as James winced in pain as he laid on the ground. “You alright, Scooter?,” he asked closing his eyes and moving his foot. Pebbles came over and began licking James’ face.
“I don’t need to be licked, Pebble-Head. More like my brain examined.” James sat up slowly and closed his eyes again. I’m going to end up with a knot on the back of my head. That could have been so much worse. “The taller you are the harder you fall,” he muttered to himself as he got on his knees and looked at Scooter. “Must you always be at my heels like a lost puppy? Must you?” Scooter came over slowly to James and licked his hands as if he was sorry. The Black picked up the small dog and held him then began to stand up gently. Feeling wobbly he walked back and blinked again. Slowly he made his way to the bench and sat down. Now Amanda is never going to let this go. She’s going to be making fun of me for ages and not going to drop it. Fantastic. He had fell in front of the Deputy Headmistress and now only things could go down hill. James kissed Scooter’s head and began examining him to make sure there were no bruises or cuts on his pet. “Perhaps now you’ve learned your lesson about walking at my heels all the time.” With his brown eyes he looked at Scooter and rubbed his cheeks. “I can’t stay mad at you for long can I?”
His eyes followed Pebbles and Bam-Bam over to Amanda and he sighed. “I’m really sorry about them. They think everyone wants to be their friend and feed them at first glance. Leave her alone boys. I’m sure she wants to be left alone for a few.” At that he gave up and leaned his head back against the back of the bench and closed his eyes. A headache was forming and he didn’t like it one bit. If the headache didn’t go away in a few he would go to the Hospital Ward and go get some medications. Probably have to make a potion and who knows how long that would take. James leaned down on the bench and sighed. All I wanted was a quiet night and now I have a headache. It wasn’t as bad as it could have been. He was lucky that he didn’t get knocked out following over his dog. He couldn’t go to sleep for another hour now to make sure he didn’t go unconscious completely.
