Opening his eyes Romolous looked over to the window and he saw how dark it was. I slept for four hours? Romolous rubbed his eyes and he looked back at the magical clock that hung in his dormitory room. So far he didn’t have to share the room with anyone because there weren’t too many students at the school so far. From what he heard from his sister earlier they had gained another staff member and another student. Amanda said that Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither would this school. James on the other hand was near panic attack mode when Romolous last saw him. The guy looked like he had been worrying about everything began ran smoothly and recruiting staff, and new students. Romolous had asked the Black if he could do anything for him, but James told him no and that he could handle it. Earlier he had been helping his sister with paperwork for the school and for the Ministry. It would give him something to do until a class started that he liked. He was only going to take one class this term if he could help it. There was no way he was going to be like Amanda and take every class there was in the school and excel in it. The world had so much more to offer than just classes.
A sigh came from his slightly parted lips as he got out of bed. Now that he was awake it would take him a couple more hours until he went to bed again. Romolous scratched his cheek and yawned. Perhaps a hot shower would wake him up and make him feel rejuvenated for the time being. The Ignis walked over to his closet and began looking through his clothing to find something new to wear. He sat the clothes he picked out on his bed and he walked into the bathroom that was connected to the dormitory room. Teddy-Lou, as his family often called him turned on the shower a little over half the hot side so that it would be just warm and he didn’t waste the hot water. This Lupin was known in the family also for using up all the hot water so that no one else could take a shower until later. He never meant to do it on purpose, but it just happened. Always he said sorry for it, but no one believed him. Once his clothes were off and into the hamper Romolous got into the shower and turned up the hot water. Now he could use up all the hot water he wanted without someone complaining to him. But he would like to use the hot water and see if anyone else, besides his dormitory room was out of hot water – perhaps for another time. He let the hot water unknot his back and relax his muscles. I must have slept on my back wrong or something. This is not feeling too good at the moment. Even thought it was awkward coming from Teddy-Lou his brother, Jonathan was a very good massager of the shoulders.
The water began to run cold and Romolous was done with his shower. Out of the shower he dried off and walked into his dormitory to put on his clean clothes. Mrs. Lupin, or Mum as the Lupin siblings would say disliked her youngest child’s choice of clothing. It reminded her of a very young Teddy Lupin and a younger Jonathan. How she was pleased once Teddy allowed her to pick out his clothing and when Jonathan grew out of his rebellious stage. Romolous used his wand to dry his hair and to style it before putting his wand in his back pocket. Dressed and nowhere to go he looked at himself in the mirror. I do not look like Grizzly Adams, he huffed to himself as he scratched his jaw line. Amanda had been pleading with her brother to shave, but he wouldn’t hear of it. Now that Mummy Lupin was nowhere around Romolous could have his face as scruffy or clean-shaven as he liked it. His appearance was the last thing on his mind at his age. Right now he just wanted to let the crumbles fall where they may and float like a leaf. Looking at himself in the mirror trying to fix his hair he thought of where he wanted to go for the time being. He had already explored the common room, the Dining Hall, the kitchen, and the assembly room. Inside the castle looked all the same to him and he wanted to go somewhere that looked inspiring almost. Of course in an area that was in the middle of nowhere wouldn’t have inspiration for anything. Now where is there to go when the school is boring? The grounds! Genius.
Romolous walked out of the dormitory and made sure his wand was in his back pocket still. His father had taught him to never put his wand in his back pocket just in case someone decided to steal it, but it wouldn’t do them too much of good. The wand could actually retaliate until the original owner was deceased, then the wand would work for the new owner that killed the first owner. It was very nifty trick, but this Lupin wasn’t going to fall for it. Since there was barely anyone in the school he wasn’t so worried about that situation happening anytime soon. Another sigh came from his lips as he made his way down the stairs into the first floor. It was past curfew and he knew he couldn’t be caught out, even though there was a slight chance of that too. Who was going to catch him when there wasn’t enough staff out and about? No one. There weren’t even Prefects to catch him out late. If Amanda caught him she would just tell him to be careful and not to do anything dare devilish. He was sure if James caught him James would tell him not to get caught by someone else and play it safe so Amanda didn’t have a heart attack and report back to their mother. Both James and Amanda had warned him about the forest, but he didn’t care. How could you live life without a bit of scare in it? Plus, it would be a challenge for him to go through the woods by himself and he could probably not use his wand because it would attract dangerous beasts!
Out of the school he took a pathway toward the woods. His brother’s hut was near the outskirts of the woods and he wouldn’t go near the hut. Jonathan would make sure he returned to the castle or stayed with him for the night. For once he would like to do something on his own with no decisions but his own. Back at home there were four people trying to control him and what not. Now he was at school he could make his own decisions. His parents weren’t around and both of his siblings were too busy to get in the middle of his life. In the woods he could feel the eerie atmosphere and he liked it a lot. It would be a different point of view and keep him on the edge. It would have been safer to explore in the morning when there was daylight, but where was the fun in taking the easy way? The moon was out so it shed some light for him to use, but not much. With his left hand he pulled his wand out of his back pocket and muttered, “Lumos.” The tip of his wand lighted with a spark and he could see well now. Anything was better than almost walking into a huge oak or something. Romolous did not want to come back to the school with a busted nose and have his brother or his sister fix it. Jonathan would just make fun of him and Amanda would have a near panic attack. With his wand in front of him he began making his way deeper into the woods.

After being sorted, Anya was told to go to her dormitories – obviously the person who showed her directions didn’t know that she was one of the worst navigators on the planet. How was she suppose to find out which stairs led to the fifth floor, let alone find the secret passage to where her common rooms were suppose to be? There’s a disadvantage of being new…
So there she was, wandering around the building and hoping to find someone to ask for directions. She could ask the paintings of course, but being a muggle all her life – the sudden onslaught of moving and chattering paintings made her somewhat shifty of them. Anya scrambled her hands inside the large pockets of her robes and found the exact thing she needed; her trusty black notebook! Before leaving for Wexford, her brothers had bought her 10 notebooks knowing she’d probably use all 10 up before half the term was through. She then took out a black inked pen which she kept in the same pocket, it won’t be long before she needed to get use to a quill, but for now, pens would have to do the trick.
The notebook was still blank; waiting to be filled with her usual doodles and scribbles. Anya found the best way to remember directions was to draw little maps in her notebook that she could refer to. Knowing that she was about to leave for a completely foreign place, Anya had kept one brand new notebook in her pocket in case the need arises – a time like now would be an amazing example. So off she went, looking around and just scribbling little doodles and notes of her surroundings. All this time Anya hoped she’d bump into someone whom she could ask for directions; that would be a whole lot easier than trying to figure this out on her own.
The castle was like a completely deserted building; she heard that not many students and staff loitered around since the school was just reopening. It was at this thought that she suddenly caught a glimpse of a shadow being casted on the wall. She tiptoed out of the dark hallway she was in into a large opening – it was the main entrance! Anya remembered the entrance from the first time she stepped into the castle, she then saw what had casted the shadow. She saw a tall slender boy pushing open the front entrance and heading out into the night.
“Hmmm… are we even allowed to do that?” She whispered aloud to herself. The sky outside was pitch dark and it seemed pretty chilly. What could the boy be doing wandering outside the castle so late at night? Anya decided she’d follow after the boy, trying to justify within her own mind that it was not out of nosiness, but more like she did need someone to guide her back to her own common rooms. Yes. That was it, she was not following him to spy, it was merely her trying to ask for directions...
Anya tucked her notebook and pen back into her robes as she sneaked out into the night. As the cool wind blew past her, she tightened her robe around herself; boy was she glad she wore another cardigan under her robe to shield herself from the chilly air. She followed a distance behind, hoping the boy wouldn’t suddenly turn back and wonder what a blonde girl is doing in the middle of the night stalking him like that. It was only when she felt like her surroundings got a little darker did she realize she followed the boy all the way into the forest.
Anya found herself having a hard time following the boy in the dark, she had a wand inside her other pocket but with her lack of experience, she really didn’t know what spells to use to protect her from the dark. Anya touched the rough tree branches, she was sure she lost both the boy and her own location by now… oh now what was she going to do?
Suddenly she heard a whisper and suddenly she got a glimpse from the corner of her eye a small glowing light. Anya scrambled to follow the light, wondering what it was. There should be magical creatures around the forest, could it be a will-o’-wisp? They were magical creatures right? The light kept moving but thank the spirits it was moving rather slowly, slow enough that Anya caught up to it well enough to realize what it was. She managed to catch up with the boy! It wasn’t a will-o’-wisp, the light was coming from the tip of the boy’s wand… could he have manage to tame a will-o’-wisp? Or was did he have some magical power to command them to lead the way?
Her thoughts made her defocused as she tumbled on a branch and landed right on the ground. “Crap! Ouch” She said loudly, she might have sprained an ankle for the burning pain she felt there was definitely an indication that she was not “ok”. And that loud sound she made, definitely alerted the boy’s attention for the light stopped and she immediately prayed he was not about to whallop her for spying on him.

A slight sigh came from his lips as he leaned against a tree for support in the dark. There wasn’t really any place he could go besides just walking aimlessly around in the forest. Either he could go back the way he came and become bored or he could keep going and get lost. The chances of him getting lost though were extremely slight since Romolous had a good sense of where he was going. The woods behind the Lupin’s are where the youngest Lupin spent most of his time besides his room. There were always new things to explore deep within the woods and where he could spend time to himself without having someone just walk into his room without knocking. Hearing some rustling he became very still and listened closely. Once the rustling stopped he began walking in the direction he had been going in. There was so much to explore, but it was hard to in the dark. The light could have more insight than the dark could have. In the morning he would have to come back and check out the woods again. Perhaps leave some markings so he could easily find his way back. How he was going to find his way back this time he didn’t know, but he would worry about that once the time came. Right now he just wanted to take one step at a time. With his foot he hit a stump and he cursed. “Lumos Duo,” he said and the light at the tip of his wand grew bigger and brighter. “Perfect.”
Again he heard some rustling and he became still like a deer in a pair of headlights. I wonder if it was the same thing making that noise the first time. I wonder what on earth it could be? Was it dangerous or no? Got to make a note to go the library to see if there were any spells on defending yourself against while animals. There was a slight crashing sound and he heard some muttering, but he couldn’t be sure. Wanting to go see what it was he turned around and began walking toward the way he had been going earlier. His heart began racing in his chest as his adrenaline began flowing. What was he going to do if it was a cannibalistic creature? Romolous was an all right runner, but on a scale of one to ten he was a six. Knowing how it would go he would start to run and trip over something like a branch. The adventurous Ignis began breathing heavily as he got closer to where he had heard the sound. Holding his wand tightly in his left hand he continued to make his way. What am I being scared of? Most animals and, or creatures would be afraid of the light and go into hiding. Well we’re also in a magical school and not back at home near the woods where there are fluffy bunnies and deer. His green eyes then saw a girl who seemed like she had been kissed the ground by doing a face plant.
Romolous lowered his wand and raised his eyebrow as he stared at the blonde girl. He asked, “Are you alright?,” but even he knew she wasn’t doing alright. The expressions on her face made it very clear she had had a rough fall on the ground. Teddy-Lou walked closer over to the blonde girl and helped her up by grabbing onto her elbows. Sitting her up he walked her over to a stump so she could sit down. “So… how did you manage to kiss the ground?” It was a rhetorical question, but he still wanted to know the answer. What was she doing out here in the forest of the night? She didn’t even use a wand to light her way. Could she see in the dark or something? Romolous didn’t think that she was that magical. A sigh came from his lips as he let go of the petite girl and he stood away from her so he would not invade her space. Nothing more than what he hated himself was to have his personal bubble invaded for any reason at all. He put his back against a tree that was close by to him and he examined the girl in front of him. Blonde, petite, seems… normal enough, he thought to himself. Snorting through his nose he thought of himself slightly as a young Sherlock Holmes with his examination of the girl. What he wanted to know was why on earth she was walking around in the middle of the night in a forest with no light no less? The girl didn’t look like she could protect herself at all from anything, but you could not always underestimate the small. Take his mom for instance. She was five five and short to him, but she could crack you in the skull with a slight tap and make you feel like a sinner in church.
Through his parted lips he sighed and hung his head a bit as he looked at his shoes. They were becoming dirty, but he knew a spell to clean them spotless like his mother had taught him. “Well if you’re well then I guess I should get going,” he said with a slight smile before bowing his head a bit and started walking. Curious, he thought to himself as he walked away from the petite blonde and began making his own way again. There was a lot to see and he only had to eyes to see with. Romolous used his wand to guide himself so that he would not end up like the girl did and fall on his face. He didn’t mind having scrapes and scars on him since they gave him a personality, but he still didn’t like getting them – especially on his face. The youngest Lupin walked over a dead tree trunk and looked to which direction he wanted to go. Going straight would be easier, but where is the fun in that? He began chewing on the inside of his mouth as he decided which way he wanted to go. Turning he began walking to his right which would lead him to the heart of the Black Forest. Now the adventure could really begin.

Anya squeezed her eyes shut from both the pain on her ankle and the feeling that the boy was about to run over and curse her with some deadly spell for spying on him. She murmured a silent prayer hoping that her first day in Wexford won’t be her last. Anya heard the leaves crackle as the boy walked towards her; she opened her eyes and look up, straight into the face of the boy. The first thought Anya had seeing the boy was gosh… he’s tall! He could probably toss her aside pretty easily seeing their size difference, now that wasn’t a good thing. If he could command will-o’-wisps to his will, he might be able to conjure up some other mystical being to kill her.
When the boy finally spoke, Anya was stunned silent for a bit – he wasn’t going to hit me? Or worst… kill me? Anya felt the boy stoop down and grab her elbows, instead of inflicting any form of physical pain, he actually was helping her stand up. This was something she’d expect her brothers to do, not a random stranger who hardly know her. I guess people in the wizarding world are way nicer than my world! Anya with the help of the boy limped slightly to the stump. She was right, he could indeed lift her up without much effort needed. The good thing about being extremely short was being easily liftable. Her brothers were always picking her up and tossing her about as if she was some sorta rag doll. When she finally sat down she heaved a sigh and proceeded to rub her aching ankle; it must have been a sprain as the pain wasn’t going away.
“I uh… I tripped” She managed, not wanting to give her actual reason away. She wouldn’t want his first impression of her to be one of a snoop. Anya continued to rub her ankle and felt his stare on her. She refused to look up; knowing if she did her eyes might give away the fact that she was lying. Well, she wasn’t exactly lying because she actually tripped – she just covered up the reason what she was doing in the forest in the first place.
When the boy said he was going to leave, Anya realized she hadn’t even thanked him and opened her mouth to do so and stop him at the same time. Before she could say a word, he was gone again. Anya cursed under her breath “So much for nice…” she immediately took her initial thought away. He hadn’t even bothered to help her back to the castle, worst; he left her all alone in the dark forest. There was no turning back now, she’d probably get lost trying to figure her way out by herself… the only way was to follow the boy with the will-o’-wisp.
“Hey! Wait up!” She said loudly and attempted to stand. Anya looked around and grabbed the longest stick she found. It was silly walking around like an old man with a walking stick, but it was going to ease the pain as she struggled to catch up with him. Anya walked towards the direction the light was going, it was fading further and further away as the boy picked up speed. “Hey!!” She screamed through the trees “What sorta person leaves an injured one behind?” She called out to the light hoping that it would stop him from moving so fast.
The moon light casted a faint glow on the world, but the trees were huge and covered any glimpse of light attempting to pierce through. The forest was indeed pitch dark and there was no way a student would be allowed in this area, that Anya could somehow figure herself. She wondered if the boy had some special privileges to be able to enter these parts. Or perhaps he was simply breaking the rules… but that would mean she was breaking the rules. If Anya got sent back home the very first day she came to Wexford, her brothers would tease her to no end!
Anya limped forward and every step she took was just a huge pain to endure. “Will-o’-wisp boy! You could at least tell me how you get one of those creatures to light the way, it might help me!” she called out yet again. If he wasn’t going to help her find her way back, maybe those magical creatures might. If only she knew that she could actually easily conjure that ball of light herself and it was nothing but a spell – not a creature.

At first he thought he was hearing things until he heard the feminine voice again. Oh… she was injured? My bad, he thought to himself as he turned around to see the blonde female hobbling toward him on the stick. The sight of her made bend over to hold his stomach as he began laughing. This was all too much for him at the moment and he didn’t even know what to do. “How was I supposed to know you were injured? You didn’t say anything besides that you tripped. I don’t recall anything about a sore ankle.” Romolous let down his wand again and began walking back over to her so that he could help her out. He just couldn’t let her hobble through the woods on that dreadful stick. The animals would turn away and laugh at her instead of trying to come after her. At least if Teddy-Lou was an animal he’d laugh at her, but the thing was… he was already laughing at her. “I really don’t mean to laugh, but that stick has got to go,” he said as he got to her. The Ignis shook his head as he put one arm around her waist. Romolous Lupin took the stick from her and put her arm around his waist. “If you were tall enough I would let your arm go around my shoulder, but you’re not tall at all. Kinda like a dwarf,” he snickered. He was always cracking a joke one way or another.
With the shake of his head he began walking back the way he came to take the girl back to the school. “And it’s not a creature that is at the end of my wand, y’know?” Romolous thought this girl must be from the woods or something. How didn’t she know what a wand was? It was the most essential thing to a wizard or witch besides their pulse. “It’s a bulb of light that comes out when you say a spell,” he mentioned as he walked on some sticks. “You’re not from around here are you?” Romolous just had to ask because everyone knew what a wand was, at least everyone he knew knew what a wand was and what it did. “I ask because most people know that there is a spell to light the way, and with their wand at that.” If that stick she had wasn’t bad enough her naive-self was going to kill him by the time they got out of the woods. Never had he met anyone like her before. Did all Muggle-borns not know about wizards? Once he had been into a bookstore owned by Muggles and they had books about wizards and witches and such. All the books he had looked at had detailed descriptions of the magical kind, even though they were way off most of the time. Just some of the stuff Muggles came up with was pretty hilarious if you had a sense of humor. Sometimes it wasn’t funny at all, but what could you do about it? Muggles would kill wizards and witches if they knew the truth. It made him wonder how Muggle-borns got used to living in Muggle and the wizard world? Had the best of both worlds it would seem.
“The spell is called ‘Lumos’, but that’s if you want a small bit of light. If you want a bright bulb so to say you have to say ‘Lumos Duo’.” Romolous looked down at the petite girl as they walked through the Black Woods on their own with nothing but his wand lighting their way. It seemed to get darker as the night progressed, but he didn’t care. As long as no horrible creatures came their way then all would be well. There was not too much he could defend them with besides the spell ‘Flipendo’. You would think because he grew up in a magic household he would know so much more, but no. Romolous Teddy Lupin had much more to do other than to learn spells that his parents said around the house. Plus, he doubted that the spells that his parents used around the house would help him defend against a creature of the night. A spell for washing dishes would do him no good other than to squirt bubbles into the enemy’s eyes. Soon it grew quiet between the two students and it was starting to bug him, though he didn’t mind there being silence normally when he was around people.
“The name is Romolous by the way,” he stated as he began walking around another broken trunk on the ground. To him it looked like the one he had walked over before, but he was quite wrong. He began chewing on his lip again as he waited for the girl to respond with her name or something of the sort. The girl felt light to him, but he was kind of tired of walking around with her at his hip. “Lets take a break for a second to see on your ankle.” Romolous sat her down on a broken tree and stretched out his back a bit. He had been bending down to help her walk and it was sort of hurting his back. There had to be at least a good foot between their heights. Who knew someone could be as tiny as her? The Lupin still thought of her a dwarf, but he knew she wasn’t that short. She was just short enough to be midget size. If one of his siblings were here they could have fixed this girl’s foot in a blink, but alas they were not there. Amanda would probably give them a hard time about being in the forests in the dead of the night. Jonathan on the other hand would have laughed and made a complete joke out of it. Also Jonathan would have kept calling this petite blonde his girlfriend when she wasn’t. Either way it would have been hell for him, but it was better than helping someone walk with all his or her weight on you.
Bending down to one knee he handed her his wand so that he could see her foot. “Hold this,” he said as he began moving her foot around. “Does it still hurt or no?” The Ignis was no doctor, but he could tell that her foot was a bit swollen. “Probably just need some ice or take a potion to let your foot go down.” He stood back up and leaned against a tree and sat down on one of its huge roots. Getting his wand back he made the bulb of light at the end go dimmer.

Anya scrunched her nose and frowned in disapproval as the boy laughed; how she thought he was mildly nice was beyond her own comprehension at this moment in time. “Well you never asked either – so much for being a gentleman!” She retorted back with vigor. Her brothers would never leave a lady unattended like that – or at least not Anya, who liked to think she was the only girl in their lives. Of course that wouldn’t be true now that she’s gone and they’re all off to a Muggle University. “Hey! Wait, it… helps” she finished her sentence just as he slipped his arm around her waist and hers on his. He was far more sturdy than the stick that’s for sure, but after his treatment towards her, she wasn’t too inclined to fully entrust her safety to him. Anya allowed the boy to toss the stick to one side and she tried to rest a bit of weight on him as she struggled to stand on her own.
“A dwarf?!” She was taken aback by the comment, what a rude boy calling her a dwarf for no reason, “I’m not a dwarf, you’re just mutated-ly tall, yes that’s what it is!” Anya’s frown continued to be plastered on her face. She’d be more good-natured if the boy hadn’t been so rude in the first place to simply walk off while she was injured. No not at all, she was not in a good mood right now. Anya knew she was shorter than most girls, but she was definitely not a dwarf or a midget, she was… petite, yes that’s the right appropriate word to use.
“I’m petite” Anya finally added, trying to sum up more confidence in that statement. Who was she kidding, short wasn’t exactly an insult when it comes to Anya, it was a fact. Anya caught the boy shaking his head as he begin to walk – it was then she felt herself being lifted rather easily by the boy. If anything she was thankful he was strong enough to lift her. Anya tried to rest some of her weight on her good leg, just so she wouldn’t be a complete burden to the boy.
“Not a creature?” She asked in surprise after hearing what he said “A spell…” she murmured silently under the breath. Anya should have done a bit of homework before leaving for Wexford, she did have a few months since getting the letter, schoolbooks and finally leaving for school. She just got so caught up with the idea that she’ll be in a completely new world without her brothers; she never found the mood to read through her school books. “I have a wand, it’s in my pocket… I just haven’t exactly got taught on how to use it” Anya answered the boy.
“I’m what you guys would call a Muggleborn, or at least that’s what most people have been telling me when I was getting my school books – a muggleborn; I wonder how you guys think of words like that, we’re not muddled up in the mind or anything… why muggle?” Anya begin to ramble, she’s always got that problem. Once she got caught up in a particular subject or topic, she could ramble on and on with questions. Curiosity was her middle name after all. “To me right now, my wand’s just a piece of wooden stick that I have to carry around, I don’t exactly know how to use it really” She ended the sentence with a slight pout. It was much lighter having to carry around just a notebook and a pen, now she had an extra stick to carry around her.
Anya listened as he explained the spell Lumos to her and immediately wished her hands weren’t around his waist so she could jot that down in her book somewhere, maybe with a doodle of a will-o-wisp. It would have been pretty cool if it had been a will-o’-wisp, then she’d have her first encounter with a magical creature! As these thoughts filled her mind, Anya was completely oblivious to how the woods were getting darker and they were moving deeper into the forest. Her mind was focused on remembering the spell and moving her aching ankles. Thanks to the boy, it was much easier to walk – not that she was about to thank him now after the way he treated her. He was a lot nicer now, but one can’t be too careful about things like that.
Suddenly the boy broke the silence with his name, “Romolous?” She asked, trying to make sure she pronounced it right, it was one heck of a long name – “Mine’s a lot easier, Anya” When he suggested for a break, Anya immediately thought it would be a good time for her to sketch out that thought she had in mind. She sat down and saw Romolous stretching, was she too heavy for him? Anya wondered, but didn’t bother asking, he had been rather mean before, no reason for her to be all nice just cause he told her what his name was.
When Romolous knelt down on the ground, Anya jolted back for a bit, shocked at his sudden movement. She didn’t know any spells but if he hurt her, she could easily attempt to poke his eye out with her wand. But not only did he not hurt her, he simply told her to hold his wand. Anya took his wand apprehensively wondering what he was going to do. When he began to inspect her feet, she cringed at the pain. “Yes of course it does!” she shouted, “Be a little gentle with it will ya? Boys…” she said the word as if it was a cursed thing. Romolous simply moved on saying all it needed was ice and a potion and then moved away.
Anya saw him making his wand go lighter and wondered if she could ever learn to do the same. Anya took the opportunity of him resting to pull out her notebook and pen. It was dark, but there was enough light from his wand her her to scribble down what he said earlier. “You said it was… Lumos was it? L-U-M-O-S?” Anya asked, not wanting to get the spelling wrong for the fear that the spell wouldn’t work. After sribbling down a will-o’-wisp like sketch, she looked up at the boy and asked “Hey Romolous, do you think I’ll ever be able to get that spell right? Does it take a long time to practice?” She asked as if she were a three year old asking her mother where babies came from.
“Another thing… what are you doing out here so late anyways? Midnight rendezvous?” Anya asked with a smirk, she had been curious about why he was out of the castle at such a late hour. It didn’t seem like an appropriate time for anyone to be leaving the safety of the school, was Romolous really breaking some sorta rule?
"You do know where you're going right?" Anya asked, a tone of suspicion inching in every word.

“Well that would explain everything,” he said out loud but more to himself than to the girl. No reason she didn’t understand how to light the way. Doesn’t even know how to properly use a wand. Romolous shook his head as he looked at the situation in front of him. Here was in the middle of the woods with a Muggle-born who was helpful as the stick she had been using earlier. “A Muggle, first of all, is a person without magic ability. If you’re a Muggle-born then that means you were born to non-magical parents. Most Muggle-borns are born in the Muggle world without the knowledge of magic.” To him this stuff was common knowledge and it made him feel unintelligent to have to explain this to someone. The girl could not help it that she had been born that way, but it seems like if you received a letter from a magical school you would at least read up on some things before leaving the safety of your home for some new place you knew nothing about. At least to him that would be the common sense thing to do, though over the years he felt as if he was the only person in the world with common sense. Hearing that she called her wand a stick felt very offensive to him, but he had to remember she was from a different world almost. “Well that stick in your hand is your wand. That is one of the most important things you own besides your own heart beat.” It came out cruel and he didn’t mean it that way.
“Yes, the name is Romolous. Named after Greek mythology. Remus, in Greek mythology and also my grandfather’s name had a twin brother named Romolous who were raised by wolves.” There was no way he was going to tell her his middle name because it was a pansy middle name. Romolous had been named ‘Teddy’ after his father’s nickname because they wanted to keep the great-grandfather’s name in the family. He nodded his head at her as she said her name. “A lot easier to spell too,” he said not looking at her. The Lupin was still trying to get over meeting a Muggle-born. I wonder why she didn’t brush up on magic before. I mean if I had just learned I could cast magic I’d be trying to test it out. At least that’s what I would do, but not everyone is me. As she made a complaint he simply looked up at her as if he was saying, ‘Do you want to be left here all out on your own?’ Ignoring her he got up from the ground and brushed off his pants so they wouldn’t become stained. Romolous did not like her tone she was using with him and he knew he deserved it a little, but not that much. Hell he was helping her get out of the forest. The very least she could do was keep her comments to herself and her complains inside that brain of hers; if she had one that is. Green eyes noticed that she had a notebook out and she began writing in it. Guess it must be a diary of some sort. He had never saw the use of those things because people could always get a hold of it and read it. Then your life is completely exposed. If you don’t want anyone to know about it then you don’t write it down.
“Yes, ‘Lumos’,” he stated as he continued to watch her write in her little notebook. “’L’-‘U’-‘M’-‘O’-‘S’. It makes a light come from the tip of your wand. Say ‘Duo’ if you want the light to be brighter.” Somehow he felt like a professor and it made him feel rather chuffed about the whole thing, though he hated teaching anyone anything. Romolous leaned against a tree and crossed his arms across his chest. “Yeah?,” he asked looking back to the petite blonde named Anya. “I’m sure if you practiced you’d get the hang of it.” “Um… I’m unsure how long it would take you to learn it. Everyone is different. You have to get the wand technique just right or it won’t work or you’ll have the spell backfire.” He didn’t mean for it to happen, but he had learned by experience that a spell could backfire whenever you do it wrong. “Why don’t you practice a bit,” he told her as he stayed against the tree. The Ignis wanted to make sure he was taking them in the right direction before he kept going. She began asking him another question and he thought she was getting pretty noisy. “I could ask the same thing about you,” he said raising his eyebrow at her. “Um… I wanted to go for a walk since I was done exploring the school a little change of scenery. You?” Why she went out in the dark is a better question. Didn’t have anything to guide her or have a clue where she was going. Her sense of direction seemed like it was not one of her stronger points.
“How about you practice that spell while I go make sure we’re going in the right direction.” The Lupin removed himself off the tree and began walking in another direction. He did this because he didn’t feel like being around the girl too much longer. She asked way too many questions and seemed to have arrogance about her. Too much more of her he would be tempted to leave her in the middle of the forest so that she could hobble her way back to the castle and find the Hospital Ward. Romolous let out a sigh and he looked at some moss on the trees. So this is west. We need to be going east to get out of the forest. Slowly he walked back to where he had left Anya sitting on a bench. He wondered if she had actually practiced the spell. “Lumos Duo,” he said out loud making the bulb of light at the tip of his wand grow brighter. Now that he could see better it took him less time to get back toward Anya. Once he got to her he looked at her. “Ready to go?,” he asked her putting his hands back into his pockets. A yawn came out of his mouth from the boredom he was encountering. If he hadn’t been intertwined with this girl he would have a better time exploring the Black Forest other than making his way back to the castle.

Anya’s impression of Romolous wasn’t getting any better with his replies; in fact he sounded rather overdramatic. That useless piece of wood in her pocket was as important as her heart beat? She highly doubt so, in fact at this stage, if someone were to put a knife on her throat and demanded for her want, she’d no doubt hand it over in a jifty.
“Raised by wolves? Like Tarzan?” Anya asked with a somewhat amused tone, maybe in this world, tarzan really did exist. That would be quite the story to tell when she went home during the holidays. “If he was raised by wolves, does he grow fangs and all that? He must have been quite temperamental – I see the genetics being passed on” Anya added, she really shouldn’t be so sarcastic to the boy. It wasn’t in Anya’s nature to think through what she said before saying it, her brain at absolutely no filter whatsoever.
As Romolous explained the spell all over again, Anya tried her best to focus, not that it was any good of course. Focus and Anya weren’t two words that associated well with each other. So there was some sort of wand technique, was it like Spiderman where he had a specific sort of technique to shoot out his web? Maybe she had to swish her wand really fast from left to right. Or maybe vertically… either ways, Romolous wasn’t being very helpful in teaching her that secret “technique”. It was then he answered her question on what he was doing and she felt her mind stop a little. She couldn’t possibly admit that she was following him, not that she realize he’s got quite a petty streak to him.
“I was uh… admiring the moon” Anya said, the first thing that came to her mind, “Yes… the moon in the wizarding world is a whole lot more fascinating than the… muggle world, it must have somehow dazzled me to follow it right into the forest! You know how those magical things work” Anya said, trying to be as convincing as she could. Since this was a magical world, the idea of a magical moon luring her to the forest seemed like a plausible reason, at least in her mind it was. Anya let out a sheepish smile to hide her little white lie, she hoped that he wouldn’t press on, she really wasn’t very good with lying.
When Romolous left her to practice her spell, Anya was too slow in stopping him. He simply left her and along with him he took his wand along – which meant it was pitch dark where Anya was. Now she was left with no choice but to actually practice. Anya kept her notebook back in her pocket and fiddled inside the other to take out her stick.
Anya remembered the time she picked out her wand, the storekeeper had told her the only thing she had to do was hold the wand and give it a slight shake. For some reason, she made a deadly mess in the store, so much so the storeowner tossed her out with the wand that gave him the least form of bodily injury – she even got it with a discount! So Anya really didn’t have a clue what to do with the wand, so was she suppose to just swish it and say lumos? That seemed a little silly, well it actually reminded her of those magicians in birthday parties. They manage to conjure up magical rabbits or doves; she wondered if any of them were real wizards from this world making a living amongst the muggles? Anywho, she was going to have to follow what they did since it was the only example she got.
Anya cleared her throat and pointed her wand in front of her; she titled her head and muttered “Lumos?” Due to her uncertainty, her spell sounded more like a question more than a statement. Nothing happened and Anya shook her wand in front of her hoping it somehow activated it like a machine. Nope, nothing happened yet again.
Anya tried a few more times with no luck and was about to give up, she could just wait there for Romolous to come back and get her. Maybe he could even teach her the “technique” he had been talking about earlier. It was then thoughts started rushing through her mind; What if he simply walked off though? Maybe he got tired of having me around… He did mention about a relative raised by wolves. Which meant there were wolves here! God no! He’s left me to the hounds!! In a panic mode, Anya twisted her head around and realized she was utterly alone in the dark.
Anya let out a long sigh and raised her wand. She had to somehow get this right or she was going to be stuck here till wolves find her and raise her. Anya dramatically swished her wand and this time she said “LUMOS” rather loudly. A huge spark erupted from her wand and just as she thought she succeeded a small explosive sound filled the air. Smoke filled the air and Anya coughed through it, flapping her hands to wave it away. The spell had did what Romolous said might have happened with the wrong technique – backfired.
The small explosion was not harmful at all, it simply caused Anya’s face to be completely covered in a layer of black soot and smoke was erupting from the tip of her wand. When the smoke cleared, a small glow appeared on the tip of the wand just as Romolous stepped back to the scene.
“It worked!! It worked!” Anya exclaimed excitedly, she waved her wand towards Romolous. Oh what a sight she was, she looked as if she had put her face into an exploding oven. Soot covered her face and there were traces of black soot around the front bits of her blonde platinum hair. But Anya couldn’t care about that, she succeeded in casting the spell. Well, the glow was actually rather pathetic, so it might not even be considered a success in Romolous’ eyes, but to Anya it was the first time she ever did any form of magic and boy was she excited!

When he got back to the area where he had left Anya the first thing that came out of her mouth was that she had accomplished the spell. His eyebrow rose as he stared at the blonde female. “You’ve done what? Managed for it to not work?” Telling by the entire suit on her face it hadn’t worked originally. Romolous looked at her wand and saw the faint glow coming from it. “Well it’s better than it backfiring on you. Did you say the spell with confidence? If you don’t it’s more than likely not to work for you.” He hated to be rude to her, but she was on his last nerve. Since he had helped her she had done nothing but make smart remarks at him. The more she talked the more he disliked the girl completely and wished to be done with her existence. As soon as he got her to the Hospital Ward and had some adult help her he was leaving. I can only hope to never see this girl again. Anya was one of those people that seemed nice at first but as you got to know her a little she became instantly annoying. He assumed she was in the Nocens house, but at this point it didn’t matter. The only thing on his mind was dropping this girl of somewhere safely or just leaving her completely out in the middle of nowhere.
“Right, so lets keep going. It’s getting dark and I’m sick of being here,” he said walking over to her. Once her notebook and utensils were away Romolous helped her back up and places his hand around her waste again. The Lupin made smaller strides so that she could keep up with him. “Well I wouldn’t be so rude if you kept your mouth shut,” he stated looking down at the ground. “Not my fault you didn’t say anything at first. I honestly wouldn’t have left you if you had stated from the beginning that your ankle hurt.” He didn’t have a quick temper since he had a long fuse, but this girl knew how to get under his skin. Romolous made the tip of his wand shine brighter as they walked besides each other. “The point is, Anya, that I am helping you now. I could have just let you hobble on that stupid stick and left you for the werewolves and other creatures that live in this forest. I’m sure the centaurs wouldn’t mind ripping apart your limbs one by one.” Now he was just being a jerk because she was annoying him greatly and he thought this would keep her quiet for the time being. Walking over some sticks he had grown quiet and kept his thoughts to himself. After this rendezvous he would go back to his dormitory and just lay on his bed. Anything seemed better than being stuck with this Muggle-born with an attitude.
Feeling a bit bad about how he had been treating her a sigh came from his lips. “I’m sorry for what I said. But I could have very well let you stay where you were. Should be grateful that I helped you out.” Normally he wasn’t this brutal to someone, but some people he couldn’t help but act rude to. He did not like acting this way and his rudeness was just flowing from his lips before he thought. Teddy-Lou kept his wand in front of him as he continued to hold their weight. “I grew up in the wizard world all my life. Kind of lived next to Muggles, but never actually interacted with them constantly. Kind of hard walking around without saying something that they would understand. We’re not exactly normal, well my family that is.” “Um… I have a mum and a dad, an older brother named Jonathan, then an older sister named Amanda.” “Dad works for the Ministry of Magic for the law enforcement for the magical folk, mum works at home cleaning and all that, Jonathan is a landscaper and actually works at the school now, and Amanda works as the Deputy Headmistress here at Wexford.” “Yeah, I can’t quite get away from my family. My siblings aren’t so bad. We’re rather close, but we are all pretty different so we like our time apart.”
Soon he saw the edge of the forest, or at least that’s what he thought. Romolous continued walking toward that direction until he got there. Stopping he took a deep breath and lowered his wand. What the hell? I thought we were going to the right direction. “No we aren’t lost, just misplaced is all.” “I have a very good sense of direction thank you very much,” he said with a tone, but he was actually joking. Licking his lips he began trying to figure out what to do. “It’s going to be alright if you just calm down. If you keep making all that racket you’re going to cause a stir.” The centaurs do not like it when you mess up the forest. He walked her over to a broken tree trunk and sat her on it. “Keep your foot propped up on the broken stump,” he demanded and began looking around. Now my guess is just as good as anyone’s since I have no clue where we are. His hands went into his pockets and he blew his hair out of his face though it didn’t help. “We’re not going to die, Anya,” he said rolling his eyes as he tried to keep his voice from yelling at her. The Ignis ran his hand through his hair a bit and leaned against a tree. There was no way he was going to send a flare into the air in fear that it would draw something’s attention toward them. “I’m just thinking. Don’t get your knickers all in a bunch,” he snickered.

Romolous tone was getting harsher as they spent more time together, Anya knew this boy was definitely not going to be one of her better friends in school. For some reason the two just simply rubbed each other the wrong way. Anya wanted to open her mouth to retort at what he said, but she decided against it since he mentioned he could leave her out to die with werewolves and other creatures. Anya had no clue of the wizarding world and this boy clearly had way more experience than she did -- which meant at this moment in time, she was at a disadvantage. That didn't stop Anya from innately cursing the boy and wondering why men were so petty in this world.
As Romolous grew silent, Anya too kept her quietness. She shouldn't have followed him into the woods and she should have someone a little more helpful than him. When Romolous began to apologize, she felt a pinch of guilt rising up within her. She did follow him to ask for his aid in assisting her back to her common room; and her lack of wand abilities, klutzy nature definitely did add to his troubles. Yet there he was apologizing to her first… Her brothers have spoiled her rotten with their constant fawning over her and Anya knew it, she just liked abusing it around them, not around strangers though. It was at this thought when Anya mustered a small tiny "I am grateful… thank you" She wasn't sure if he even heard it since she didn't make much of an effort to say it louder. It wasn't everyday that she admitted to her mistakes.
She listened to his story and was rather surprised about the revelation regarding his sister being the Deputy Headmistress, that was probably why he could walk out of the school grounds without much trouble. Since he was sharing his life story, Anya thought she might chirp in as well, lighten the awkward mood. "My family's a lot different from yours, not only cause we're muggles" She took a deep breath and shifted her weight a little to walk a little more stably and lessen his load "I have 3 older brothers, Aaron, Anthony and Alexander -- they're really protective over me and well, I've always been a trouble magnet of sorts, so they kinda protect me from all that" Anya attempted a feeble laugh, "It's my first day in Wexford and I'm already breaking a leg so to speak, if they were around, I probably wouldn't be in such a sorry state." Anya missed her brothers terribly. They were her guardians and now being completely alone, specially in the woods without them, she did feel terribly alone.
"Truthfully, I was lost trying to find the Agrestis common rooms. I've been told that I'm not very good with directions -- I saw you sneaking out of the castle and thought maybe you could help me figure my way back" Anya finally admitted, "I don't think that worked out very well; as much as I'm thankful for your help, I'd much prefer another person's company" She added, wanting Romolous to know she was enjoying his company equally the same as he did hers.
Ironically thought, asking Romolous for directions didn't seem like such a good idea. Now she was even more lost than before, she propped her leg on the stump and rested. She then looked at Romolous and said, "I guess we'll just die in the forest, at least I made it through sorting!" she tried to look at the situation in a more positive light. When Romolous tried to convince her that they weren't going to die, Anya still wasn't very convinced -- he didn't really seem to be sure of where he was going.
"You said your sister's the Deputy Headmistress? Is there anyway to get her somehow so she could send someone to get us?" Anya questioned hoping to suggest a probably solution to get out of the forest. "Or maybe we could set up camp or some sort and head back to the castle when it's a little brighter, that way we won't be so handicapped by the dark" It wasn't her personality at all to just keep quiet and let the boy think, after all her life was also at stake! “I think my ankle would be fine after a while too, I just need to get accustomed to the pain and it should be fine, then I can probably walk by myself”
Anya was trying to at least be helpful rather than sarcastic, the boy clearly didn't appreciate her snappy remarks earlier and since she was somewhat indebted to him for his help, she thought she'd at least attempt to be a little more friendly. Obviously when they make it out alive, she thoroughly wished she never needed to cross paths with the boy any longer. He didn't seem to like muggles very much, and definitely didn't like her, that he made perfectly clear.

”The only thing about shooting up a flare in the middle of the woods in the night is that you can get the attention of animals you do not want. Plus, the chances of Amanda or James, or even my brother is unlikely. They’re probably all asleep by now.” Romolous pulled his hands out of his pockets and sat down on a stump. As he thought about it more that’s the only logical situation was to do – to wait it out until the morning. He didn’t want to stay here all night in the forest and wait because something else could get them by then. “If you think you can walk then go walk then by all means go walk.” A sigh came from his lips as he began to rub his face with his hands. Thoughts ran through his head as he tried to think of something for them to do. Details of how they could be killed ran through his head. Centaurs didn’t like people on their lands; there were huge spiders, and other creatures as well. Remus Lupin, his grandfather was a very good storyteller by all means. Grandpa Lupin used to go to school here when he was a kid and he was pretty cool once you get past his stories. Grandma Tonks would get onto him for scaring Jonathan, Amanda and him when they were younger. He always said that it was good to be scared once in a while.
Romolous looked over at Anya and rolled his eyes at her. She was something else all together and he really didn’t know what to make of her. Anya was slightly funny, but more of an annoyance to him. Perhaps he wouldn’t come by her again for some time or something. What he felt like was that he needed some fresh air before he ended up taking his lights out or Anya’s. Either one would be perfect though he preferred hers. He looked from Anya and shook his head. “Well practice a few spells then. Might make yourself useful to be honest.” Right now he was starting to get a little hungry, but there was no use thinking about food because he wouldn’t be able to eat until the morning. “Hold your wand like this,” he said showing her how to hold it. “Make a ‘U’ shape then come down like a ‘Y’ without a tail. When you come down say, ‘Lumos’. His green eyes looked to Anya to see if she was trying it. “Try it again. Shouldn’t give up so soon. You’ll probably have to be able to master that spell once school starts. My parents had to learn it in their first year. I wonder if it will be different.”
“Maybe I should just send a flare out. It’ll be a lot better than staying until the morning. It’s more dangerous just to wait it out than to try to get help.” Romolous stood up and pointed his wand up in the air, “Veblesio.” A red flare came from his wand and it shot up through the trees and shown in the air. He lowered his wand and sat back down on the stump. “If anyone saw it they should be here soon. “The light will last for about an hour.” His father had taught him that spell when Romolous had gotten lost once in the woods. Teddy-Lou had been lost for about four hours and his father had found him. Mummy Lupin did not want her little one lost in the woods again since she knew she couldn’t keep him from exploring. The youngest Lupin had always liked a challenge and the woods had that challenge that Teddy-Lou wanted. Each place was different and had a different atmosphere. “See,” he said looking at her. “It’s not so hard is it?” He rubbed his cheek a bit and looked up at the sky since it was giving off a red color. Hopefully someone would come to their rescue. A sigh came from his lips and he looked over to Anya. “Um… try Flipendo. It moves objects forward.”
Romolous ran his hand through his hair and he leaned back against a tree as he sat on the stump. He closed his eyes and wondered when they were going to get out of there. There wasn’t much to do since they were lost. Teddy-Lou wondered who was going to come save them. There weren’t too many options since there was very little staff at the school. “Magical world is kind of like the Muggle world, just with magic. We use magic to do everyday things: cleaning, cooking, and getting around places. You can use a broom to get around but most people don’t really use it. Some people use the Floo Network to get around. Then adults can Avaparate. Where you can disappear and appear somewhere else. You have to take a test for that and I heard it’s rather difficult.” Teddy-Lou began chewing on his bottom lip as he waited for Anya to ask a question. He began twirling his wand in between his fingers he put his elbow on his knee and his chin in his hand.

Post by ANYA OGILVIE on Jun 28, 2010 9:47:04 GMT -5
The situation seemed futile; Romolous said his sister and the headmaster was already asleep so sending a spark wouldn’t help – there was simply no way out of this. The thought of spending a night in the forest with Romolous was the last thing on Anya’s ideal itinerary for her first-day-in-Wexford. His crabby remarks were rather unpleasant and she was starting to deduce that he’s probably a Nocens, they were rumored to be the most hateful house weren’t they?
Make myself useful? You aren’t much of a help either getting us lost like this… Anya said spitefully in her mind. The only good thing she could think of about the boy was his experience with spells – coming from a pure wizarding family must have done its work on Romolous. Maybe he was a Maior, they were smart, pleasant or not seemed to have nothing to do with books. Either way he’s probably not from a house she’d like at all. Anya wiped her face, still not realizing that it only made her smear more soot around her appearance. She took out her wand and followed his wand action, a Y without a tail, that didn’t seem too difficult; so much for spidey flicks.
“Lumos” Anya said with conviction as she made her small U shape, no explosions – that has got to be a better effort than her first try. She scrunched her nose and focused, a swish of her wand in a letter U and… “Lumos!” A flickr of action was going on at the tip of her wand, then slowly a glow came shining, the glow grew a brighter shade of whitish blue, it worked! The spell actually worked without any eruptions of random nonsense. Anya looked at Romolous for a moment hoping he would give her some sort of compliment on her amazing Lumos charm. She then realized who she was looking at and decided it’d be better not to even wish for any form of encouragement.
“Yeah send a flare or something, I’d much rather we try than sit and wait it out” Anya said truthfully, the idea of being with Romolous for a moment more was really starting to be a bad idea. Anya watched as a red flare erupted from his wand and went up to the sky; her eyes grew a little larger in wonderment. In the muggle world they’d probably have to spend a way longer time making a similar flare, in this world it was just a swish of a wand and you got yourself a handy SOS signal. How convenient. Wizards do have it easy.
When Romolous gave her a minute form of acknowledgement regarding her Lumos spell, Anya simply shrugged and reply “yeah, not that hard now that you get the hand of it” – in truth she was beaming with pride and really wanted to show someone the amazing trick she learnt. Of course she wouldn’t show that to Romolous, why give him the pleasure of knowing she was thankful for his teachings?
“Flipendo? Sounds like a spell to flip pens” Anya said her thoughts out loud without flitering. She picked up her wand and did the same U shape technique whilst saying Flipendo, initially nothing happened and Anya got so obsessed with trying that she didn’t even hear a single thing Romolous was saying. She was simply too focused trying to get the spell right, moving objects would be quite a nifty trick when you’re lazing about on bed.
“Flipendo” Anya repeated, she saw some leaves shuffling about and it seemed like it was working, mildly… but working at least. She pointed her wand at the leaves again and this time the spell worked a little better, but all it did was send a mass load of dried leaves to where Romolous was sitting. She giggled when she saw Romolous covered in leaves.
“Sorry, but hey… practice makes perfect!” Anya offered pathetically, knowing he’d probably be furious by now. Not that she cared – the flare gives her an hour to wait out for help, if someone came then she wouldn’t even need to bother about with Romolous’ temper any longer.
Anya continued to kill time by flipendo-ing and lumos-ing, by a few more tries, she was actually getting the hang of both spells. At least now she had some spells in her mind rather than walking around like a complete airhead. Anya pointed her wand at a stick on the ground and said the flipendo spell out loud confidently. The stick flew up in the air and went a few distances before hitting something with a loud thud. The thud didn’t quite seem like a ground, in fact it sounded like it hit an animal’s body… or a human’s body… whatever it was made a loud noise and Anya immediately scrambled to her aching feet.
“What the heck was that?! I swear that stick just hit something… something that wasn’t a ground!” Anya called out loudly to Romolous “Stand up you big buffoon, check that out!” She said without thinking.

Post by JAMES ALASTAIR BLACK on Jul 24, 2010 14:50:45 GMT -5
Finally able to sit down at his chair and relax James looked at the empty desk in front of him. All his "homework" for the day had been completed, which he was glad for. Now he could spend the rest of the evening sitting back and breathing. The dogs were out running about somewhere in the castle and he was quite glad for that. Don't get him wrong - he loves his dogs like they were his children, but he wanted a break from everyone and everything at the moment. It was nice to have Me-Time for once without some interruptions from Miss Lupin or three to four dogs barging in wanting to play ball. Closing his eyes he leaned back in his chair and propped his feet up on his desk. The room felt rather hot to him and it was making him feel stuffy. His sinuses were acting up again due to all the pollen around him. Why must he have inherited the genetics from his father? James laced his hands together and put them over his eyes to block out the light coming from the room. Now if I could only go to bed right now. That'd be so lovely.
Hearing a spark with his sensitive ears he sat up and put his feet on the ground. He stood up and looked toward the window to his chamber. Being a dog animangus he was able to have sensitive senses in human form. A red light was above the trees of the Black Forest and he sighed. It’s going to be a long night. I can tell. Whenever a red flare like that was shown it meant that someone was lost or in need of help. I hope that’s not a student out there. James ran out of the room and changed into a brown retriever down the hallway. Goodness grief. This school is still as sad as ever. The only excitement I get is saving someone. Fun. Growling to himself he ran down the stairs trying to get to the main entrance as fast as he could. Who knows what could be happening in the Black Forest at this time of night. Was it even a student? There weren’t that many students to begin with. The Black jumped the last four steps and landed on his paws with perfection. As he ran he changed back into a human, fully clothed at that, and opened the door. I’m going to have to get a doggy door or something at this rate, he thought to himself as he ran outside into the dark and began running down the steps to the grounds.
Once his shoes were against the grass he changed back into a retriever and began heading toward the forest. If he was able to find Amanda he would have made her come as well, but he wasn’t about go searching for everyone. Still growling to himself as he thought silently he ran on the path. I wonder if it could be a trap. Well who would want to have a trap at the school? And why? Nothing is even here for there to be something like that. You really need to stop thinking that this school is going to be exciting. There is no way this school could ever be exciting. It wasn’t when I was in school and it’s really not going to change. Picking up a familiar scent James knew Romolous was around somewhere. Romolous was Jonathan and Amanda Lupin’s younger brother. The scent is fresh. I don’t think he’s the type to be lost. At least that’s what he assumed from the way Amanda talked about her sibling. Sniffing the ground he began following the trail as it lead closer to the forest. James lifted his muzzle and sneezed. Freaking allergies. He began running not wanting to run out of time.
What’s this other scent? It’s mixing with his. It smelled rather feminine, but he didn’t know the scent. Was it safe or not he did not know and he was going to find out. James’ pace began quickening as he found a fresh new trail of Romolous and the unfamiliar scent. He jumped over a broken tree then a stump. The scent began getting stronger as he got closer to Romolous and whoever-and-whatever-it-was. Hearing voices he began walking slowly over to them not wanting to startle anyone or get caught by some creature. It was no good if he got caught too, then no one would be doing any saving. A stick broke beneath his pawn and his eyes went wide. A feminine voice called out and he sighed. It was in fact a female that was with Romolous. She sounded rather childish to him, but that wasn’t the point at the moment. As he got closer to them James turned into a human. “It’s only me, so shush,” he said to the girl and rolled his eyes. Point his wand up and looking up toward the sky he moved his wand around making the flare go out. “What are you two doing out in the Black Forest in the middle of the night? Honestly now. No reason you go to school – have no lick of common sense.” Feeling like his father during a long lecture he went quiet. “What happened here?”
